Farm Meets City

Farm Meets City

City Farm is a non-profit organization bringing sustainable vegetable farming right into the heart of Chicago. Their mission is to turn vacant city land, usually overgrown with weeds and crumbling cement, and turn it into productive farmland – ultimately changing the landscape of our city. At their main farm located between Cabrini Green and the Gold Coast, they've produced 25,000 pounds of veggies including tomatoes, spinach, carrots, beets and herbs in addition to new jobs and green space in the city.

You can buy their amazing produce at their market stand which is open during the summer and fall. You can also donate in support of the Resource Center which runs Chicago recycling programs and agriculture programs including City Farm.

If you'd like make a difference while enjoying this great weather, there are many volunteer opportunities to take advantage of starting up right now – reserve your spot today!

About Little Bits

Our goal is to provide locals with healthy, earth-friendly content in a fresh and simple way. We’ll do the research for you and share all the local “green” info we can find, including: restaurants, products & technology, local shopping, fun events, great ways to give, quick tips and more. We understand that it’s practically impossible to live in a modern society and not leave an environmental impact, but we believe that we can all change something to make it better. Let us be your resource for a more nourishing relationship with your mind, body and earth – even if it’s only a little bit at a time!
